Claiming the British White Breed Championship title on Monday 24th July at the Royal Welsh Show was three-year-old stock bull Castleton Ken, also taking the Male Championship and marking an impressive 50 years of breeding under the Castleton prefix for the Wright family of Tretower, Powys. Shown by brother and sister team David & Liz - pictured with Castleton Ken along with kind sponsors of the British White section, Forsters Solicitors LLP - this bull returned to the show after after achieving last year's Male Championship to go even further by taking the top spot in 2023.
Standing reserve in the overall placings was the senior heifer class winner Dallyashes Twostep from Mrs AS Hamilton, Llanpumpsaint, which beat a strong section of females to be awarded the Female Championship under judge Wendy Finucane of Oakley Murray Greys, Whitland. The Reserve Male Championship went to the first-placed junior bull Alcroft Goliath from Miss S Cook, Cambridge, and Reserve Champion in the female section was junior heifer Amaroo Pommery from Mrs R Pugh, St Helens.
The winner of the class for cows born on or before 31st December 2020 was another originating from the Amaroo herd and now owned by Mr Mathew Jones, Carmarthenshire, who brought forward the three-year-old first-calver Amaroo Pretty Pinion with homebred heifer calf Waun Wern Peppa (R) at foot, to claim the first prize.
The Society wishes to thank all of the exhibitors for their hard work in bringing animals forward to the show, as well as for competing in the various interbreed competitions throughout the week and promoting British White cattle to the public.
