First Welshpool Spring Sale a Success

Prices remained consistently high across the second of the BWCS Spring Sales for 2021, kindly hosted by Welshpool Livestock Sales on Thursday 20th May alongside their sales of Limousin and Salers cattle. The British White offering certainly didn’t disappoint with a superb selection of seven maiden heifers and one bull, all top quality, realising an excellent trade.

The highest-priced British White on the day was two-year-old bulling heifer Rockley Jelly from Mr & Mrs R Nourse, Gloucestershire, which was knocked down at 2600gns to the Emily Estate, Somerset. Not wanting to leave their stable mate with all the glory, three more heifers from the Rockley herd sold for 2400gns apiece; Rockley Orchid and Rockley Eucryphia also heading off to the Emily Estate, and Rockley Romneya joining the Woodfield herd of Mr James Osborne, West Midlands.

TOP PRICE: 2-YEAR-OLD HEIFER ROCKLEY JELLY, 2600GNS

BELOW, TOP LEFT TO BOTTOM RIGHT: ROCKLEY ORCHID, ROCKLEY EUCRYPHIA, ROCKLEY ROMNEYA AND CASTLETON HEDERA ALL SOLD AT 2400GNS

Also knocked down at 2400gns to Mr Osborne was another impressive bulling heifer, two-year-old Castleton Hedera from CMB, JAW & DM Wright, Powys. Two more young females from the Castleton herd were purchased by the Emily Estate; bulling heifer Castleton Whinberry 4 for 2000gns and the youngest in the sale, 11-month-old Castleton Anwen for 1400gns.

To finish the day on a high, the final lot through the ring was 2-year-old bull Castleton Pythagoras — also from CMB, JAW & DM Wright — selling to purebred British White beef producers and retailers Savin Hill Farm, Cumbria.
