British Whites reach top price of 3,000gns at Melton Mowbray Autumn Show & Sale

Albany Oklahoma (VG87) sells for 3,000gns

Topping the cattle section at Melton Mowbray's annual Traditional & Native Breeds Show & Sale on 14 September was the 2017-born British White cow Albany Oklahoma (VG87) from L Cook, Cambridge, selling for 3,000gns to Lucy Eyre, Welshpool. Sold with her 4-month-old red-pointed heifer calf Albany Ochre (R) at foot, this cow is sired by Dadley Rotavator and makes the trip across to Wales to join Dr Eyre's Diskin herd.


Stoke Golding Matilda (EX92) sells for 1,850gns

Selling at 1,850gns was another cow and calf outfit, the superb 10-year-old Stoke Golding Matilda (EX92) with her registered bull calf Woodfield Excalibur at foot sold by James Osborne, Stourbridge, was purchased by James Brain & Libby McGinn for their Lordswood herd, based in Stratford upon Avon.


Nidderdale Harmony sells for 1,750gns

Highest-priced heifer on the day was the tremendous 2022-born in-calf heifer Nidderdale Harmony bred by Andrew Fisher, Harrogate, which sold for 1,750gns to farm shop beef producer Mr Carr, also based in North Yorkshire. Mr Carr also picked up two further lots: 3-year-old first-calver Swarkestone Vera with her heifer calf Swarkestone Violet 2 at foot, bred and sold by RW & SL Lucas for 1,300gns, and yearling heifer Moorland Florence from Dr EJ Gibson for 910gns.


Templar Nectarine 221 sells for 1,500gns

Local breeders K & RP Harding achieved the top yearling heifer price of 1,500gns for the homebred maiden Templar Nectarine 221 which was purchased by Mark Turney, Northampton, following her being awarded the Breed Championship in the previous day's showing.
